Calgary Roughnecks Get Revenge in a 14-7 Win Over The Oshawa FireWolves
Calgary Roughnecks Got Into Dangerous Situations to Score
When looking at the stat sheet, one might notice that the Oshawa FireWolves had more shots on goal. However, that statistic is misleading as the Roughnecks had more shots in good areas of the floor, and that was a big reason why the Roughnecks were able to secure the victory over the FireWolves. Some examples include:
- Riley Isaacs was the first to get to the rebound as he was close to the net, when Tanner Cook’s shot was stopped initially by Doug Jamieson.
- There was a period late in the third quarter, where Calgary continued to get rebounds and get themselves in positions to score. Even though they did not score in that possession, it highlighted what Calgary was able to do for most of the game.
Tanner Cook and Tyler Pace Shone for the Calgary Roughnecks
The Roughnecks scored 14 goals against the FireWolves. Eight of those goals involved Tanner Cook, in some way, scoring four goals and dishing out four assists.
In addition, Tyler Pace also played well, scoring two goals and dishing out five assists.
Whenever Oshawa seemed to be closing the lead, Calgary had a response. This was shown in the fourth quarter. After Tye Kurtz’s goal in the fourth quarter, they responded by scoring four straight goals. Pace had two assists, while Cook had one assist during that time period.
Another reason why Calgary won was also because of Colby Bowman, who made 37/38 saves in relief.
Oshawa FireWolves Were Not Able To Get Into Dangerous Areas of the Floor
Despite the Oshawa FireWolves having more shots, they were not in good areas of the floor like Calgary was.
Oshawa FireWolves forward Alex Simmons. talked about this below:
“We played soft. We didn’t get to the middle. We relied on the other side of the shooting. And that’s not going to win the game.”

Another way to see it was Calgary defending enough that Oshawa was not able to get into better scoring areas of the floor. It also showed how much Calgary wanted to win the game after losing at home the previous week to Oshawa.
Other Topics: The Oshawa FireWolves Fans
What was probably the biggest thing with the FireWolves in general was the fan support they had this year. This is what Simmons said about the fan base:
“The city has welcomed us with open arms, and they have great people, and they love the sport. They know the sport, so it wasn’t like teaching them anything. They know it, and they love it, and it’s been great.”
Oshawa FireWolves head coach Glenn Clark agrees with this sentiment, as he said this about the fan base in general.
“The fan base has been great, the support has been great, the community has been great, the transition has been great.”

This is probably what is most important about the team. With a league dealing with lots of relocation and folding of teams in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) recently, having a fan base that supports a team is paramount. It also shows people that Oshawa supports their team. The question will be whether they can continue this in successive years, but they are off to a fantastic start.
Looking at the bigger picture, this is what Clark said about the bigger picture of the FireWolves franchise and their five-year plan, which started when the FireWolves were in Albany:
“It’s been a blessing and a curse with this group,” said head coach and general manager Glenn Clark. “The blessing is that we went to the Finals three seasons ago and we made it to the top, the curse is that people think that we’re still there and we’re not. I knew we weren’t. You need to grow into that consistency in this league, and that’s never changed, and we’ve still got our core that is learning how to win in this league.”
The first year the team has been in Oshawa would be season three of the five-year plan. Last year, the FireWolves in Albany failed to make the playoffs.
