ANALYSIS – The Oshawa FireWolves’ Dispersal Draft took place on Wednesday, September 15. This was for the two teams, the Philadelphia Wings and the Ottawa Black Bears, which unfortunately folded because they couldn’t find buyers to save them.
Oshawa FireWolves’ Dispersal Draft: Superstar Jeff Teat Is with the Team
Jeff Teat (First Pick, First Round, From the Former Ottawa Black Bears)
Jeff Teat, a native of Brampton, Ontario, has earned plenty of accolades over the years. The New York Riptide selected him first overall in 2020. He would not make his debut with the Riptide until 2022.
He earned many accolades with the Riptide, including NLL Rookie of the Year, All-Rookie Team, and All-NLL Second Team in 2021-22. He also earned a spot on the All-NLL First Team in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
Teat was also instrumental when the New York Riptide relocated to become the Ottawa Black Bears at the end of the 2023-24 season. He earned a spot on the All-NLL Second Team in the 2025-26 season and was named a finalist for the 2025-26 Sportsmanship Award.
Teat is an exceptional player. He holds the second-best and ninth-best all-time points records during the 2023-24 (136 points) and 2024-25 (131 points) NLL seasons with the New York Riptide.
The story is the same for goals. He tied for seventh all-time in goals with 56 in both the 2022-23 and 2024-25 NLL seasons. Teat also ranked fifth in goals in the 2024-25 NLL season, scoring 58.

One of Teat’s most unforgettable games came when he scored eight goals and added one assist against the Las Vegas Desert Dogs on April 12, 2025. The team won 13-10, with Teat scoring six of his eight goals in the second quarter.

FireWolves fans might remember Teat providing one goal and four assists as the Black Bears came from behind to win in overtime at the Canadian Tire Centre (CTC).
The excitement with Teat can be seen in what head coach and general manager of the Oshawa FireWolves, Glenn Clark, said about him, according to the Oshawa FireWolves website:
“The opportunity to get a player of Jeff’s calibre is very special for our organization,” said Glenn Clark. “We’re really excited to add Jeff to our core and have this group take the next step towards a championship.”
With the all-star combo of Alex Simmons and Jeff Teat, expect the FireWolves to be competitive this year.
Ron John (25th Pick, Third Round, From the Former Philadelphia Wings)
The Philadelphia Wings selected Ron John 18th in the 2018 NLL Entry Draft. From Angola, New York, this is what the Oshawa FireWolves said about John, according to the FireWolves website:
John can pick up loose balls, force turnovers, and help his teammates on scoring chances, according to the NLL Players’ Association website. He will be a valuable player on the team.
Kevin Brownell (37th Pick, Fourth Round, From the Former Ottawa Black Bears)
Brownell, selected in the fourth round of the 2026 NLL Dispersal Draft, is an experienced defender. This is what the FireWolves website said about him:
A native of Burlington, Ontario, Brownell was selected 22nd overall in the 2012 NLL Draft. He has spent most of his career with the Buffalo Bandits, from 2013-20 and 2022. Brownell made his name in the NLL with the Bandits and made the NLL team with them in 2019 and 2022.
One of his biggest accomplishments came in 2021-2022, when he tied team captain Steve Priola for most turnovers caused (21), according to the NLL website.
He also scored a beauty against the Vancouver Warriors back in March of 2026.

Other Notable Transactions
The Oshawa FireWolves selected Connor Kearnan (13th Pick, First Round, from the Former Ottawa Black Bears). However, they immediately traded him to the Saskatchewan Rush, along with Jaxon Fridge and their 20th overall pick, to get Holden Garlent.
This is what the FireWolves said about Garlent by Glenn Hendry of INsauga – Ontario Local News:
Garlent, who was drafted fourth in the 2019 NLL Entry Draft by the Saskatchewan Rush, has stepped up in the biggest games. This was clear in the 2025 NLL playoffs, for example. He had a very good defensive game against the Halifax Thunderbirds in game two of the 2025 NLL playoffs. This allowed the Rush to advance to the 2025 NLL Finals.
Additionally, Garlent scored his first-ever NLL goal on December 28, 2019, when the Rush beat the New York Riptide 10-4.

Defence was a weakness for Oshawa in the 2025-26 NLL season. A clear example of this was the number of goals the Oshawa FireWolves gave up against the Ottawa Black Bears late in the fourth quarter at the Canadian Tire Centre (CTC).
Other examples include the three games in January. This included giving up 15 goals each to the Saskatchewan Rush (January 17) and the Colorado Mammoth (January 24). They also allowed 16 goals to the Las Vegas Desert Dogs (January 31).
But the most exciting part is Oshawa landing a player like Jeff Teat. Having a player like him to work in tandem with Alex Simmons is a gift that the FireWolves received. Expect him to be one of the best, if not the best, players on the team when the season starts in November.
