Canada Wolverines Defence Was Elite At Lamport Stadium

ANALYSIS – The Canada Wolverines played in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at Lamport Stadium, this time against the Jamaica Reggae Warriors, the best team in the Americas. It was an impressive game by Canada, as they looked like the better team at Lamport Stadium, with a part of that being the superb Canada Wolverines defence that was seen on Saturday.

Canada Wolverines Defence and Offence Played Big Role in 28-6 Win

Canada Wolverines Kick Passing Was Excellent

The Canada Wolverines kick-passing was on-point. Some examples of this includes:

  • Blake Mahovic kicked the ball to Carpenter, who made a fantastic acrobatic catch to score a try for the Wolverines (it was the first try scored by the Canada Wolverines).
  • Mitch Talbot made a great kick-pass, which was scored by this Michalik.

Also, late in the game, there was a fantastic kick that was caught in the 77th minute of play. One can tell that the Canadians worked hard on their kicking game and that those plays came from the training ground.

Some Great Individual Plays and Passing by Canada

There were some great individual plays and passing by the Canada Wolverines rugby league team. Some examples include:

  • Mahovic scored a fantastic individual try.
  • A great pass by Mahovic, resulted in a try scored by Colton Carpenter in the 58 minute.
  • Mahovic delivered a great pass to Talbot just before the bell rang to end the game.

Overall, the physicality of players like Mahovic and other players was too much for the Jamaican Reggae Warriors to deal with. Also, even before Canada scored their first try, they were signs that the team looked dangerous with their passes, which troubled Jamaica all game long.

Canada Wolverines Defence Was Exceptional

The defence of the Canada Wolverines was elite and top-class against Jamaica. It was probably the most impressive thing to point out about their win against Jamaica. Besides the early try that they conceded to Lamont Bryan of Jamaica, Canada looked dominant at Lamport Stadium. Some examples of this include:

  • Canada forced a goal-line lineout in the 45th minute.
  • Defensive pressure forced a bad offload by Jamaica in the 77th minute.

Overall, Canada’s defence was solid, as they gave Jamaica no wiggle room. The only time where Canada looked vulnerable might have been at the wings, which Jamaica almost capitalized on late in the first half.
Yes, like with Jamaica, Canada was committing a lot of turnovers throughout the game. Also, the fact that a Jamaica player got a yellow card in the second half helped, but all in all, it was a fantastic performance by Canada.

Note: For the Canada Wolverines, this is a big win in terms of the International Rugby League rankings. Canada is ranked 41st while Jamaica is ranked 18th world. Expect Canada to go up thanks to this result at Lamport Stadium.
