Canada v Jamaica: Wolverines Host Rivals the Jamaica Reggae Warriors

Canada Wolverines (2-0-1 in 2026)

The Canada Wolverines are off to an impressive start in 2026. Their three games earlier this year were played in Europe. They beat Norway 56-6 in Lillestrøm, Norway, on July 2, and they also beat the Netherlands 34-6 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on July 11.
They lost to Scotland, 22-10.

This is what the Canada Wolverines head coach, Aaron Zimmerle, said about the win, according to the Canada Rugby League Association (CRLA) Website:

“With two good wins against Norway and the Netherlands, both above us on the rankings and a gritty loss to Scotland, the tour has been a great step forward for Canadian RL. I know the boys, and I are very excited to reunite in October and continue our development against Jamaica.”

These results helped Canada become the highest-ranked team in the Americas; they are ranked 17th in the world, only two places higher than Jamaica, which is currently ranked 19th in the world, according to the IRL website.

Jamaica Reggae Warriors (Has Not Played a Game in 2026)

The second-highest-ranked team in the Americas will face the Canada Wolverines in Canada for the first time since 2024. This will be Jamaica’s first men’s international game played in 2026.

Jamaica played two international games last year. Their first game was against France in Albi, France. They lost and couldn’t secure a spot in the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.

They did, however, beat Canada at the UWI Mona Bowl in Kingston, Jamaica, on November 22, 2025. This is what Jamaican head coach Roy Calvert said about the game against Canada, according to the Jamaica Observer website:

“We had a very rough, interrupted preparation, but we stuck to it. The guys did what they were asked to, gave 80 minutes’ effort, and that pulled us over the line.”

Jamaica won that game 34-12, with Tahj-Jay Lynch scoring three tries for his team. With this win, Jamaica was able to avenge their 28-6 loss to the Canada Wolverines back on October 19, 2024.

Head-to-Head Matchups and Mutual Respect

Canada actually has the better head-to-head with Jamaica, with six wins, four losses, and one draw. However, Jamaica has won three of the last four games against Canada. The only game Jamaica lost from those four games was when they played at Lamport Stadium on October 19, 2024, where Canada won 28-6.

Still, there seems to be some brotherhood between the two national teams. Canada went on the road in Jamaica, despite the horrific hurricanes the Jamaicans experienced last year. This is what the Jamaican men’s head coach, Roy Calvert, said about it, according to the Jamaican Observer website:

“I would like to thank Canadian Rugby League for sending two teams, especially at a time that our country is going through so much after the hurricane here,” Jamaica’s men’s coach, Roy Calvert, said. “It has been a real morale boost.

This appreciation is mutual. This is what the Canada Rugby League (CRL) head coach, Aaron Zimmerle, said about the upcoming game against Jamaica:

“It was a pleasure for us to come to Jamaica,” Canada’s men’s head coach, Aaron Zimmerle, said. “I know the country is hurting after suffering through the hurricane, and for our players to see how theirs have rallied around that, there are things more important than the result.”
